WILLIAM CARROLL
A native of Pennsylvania,
as a young man came to
Nashville as a hardware
merchant. Served as a Brig-
adier General under Andrew
Jackson in the Creek War
and the War of 1812. Served
twelve years as Governor
of Tennessee; longer than
any other Governor.
