May 10 - The Masons
The Masons were a highly influential organization in Nashville history. Cumberland Lodge #8 purchased an 80' x 50' lot in 1845 (cost $200.00) as a burial place for its members. Two Nashville descendants told us about their ancestors. William Cooper unveiled a replacement tombstone for his ancestor, Washington Cooper. Duncan Callicott's ancestor, Wilkins Tannehill, served as mayor and wrote the Masonic standard manual.  The tombstones for many other Masons were pointed out on the walking tour.

The Davidson County Master Gardeners City Cemetery Committee Co-Chairs Lou Anne Sandlin and Bob Mather conducted our 3rd annual Boxwood Trimming demonstration for the Master Gardeners and the new class of 2008 on Saturday Feb. 16th. Despite the cool weather, we had 20 in attendance.
We continued to shape the boxwoods around the Flag pole area and the Robertson Family plot.
We also got to some of the other outer area boxwoods. We'll soon start our annual cleanup of the flower beds and get them ready for the Spring.
